Somehow Vanessa found time in her crazy busy schedule to answer some follow-up questions.   Thanks Vanessa.   If you have not yet tried Google Sitemaps, you are missing out.

  • If Google’s search engine was not available, what would you use to find things?
I’m very glad Google is around. I remember the hours and hours I spent in the library, looking through old microfilm and microfiche back when I was in college. Kids today just don’t know. I guess that’s my generation’s “walking to school in the snow uphill both ways” story. We tell the young whippersnappers about the days before Google. I still use the library all the time, but now I can use Google for my Britney Spears searches.

Hey everybody the Search Engine Strategies conference in New York was great.  Unfortunately, it was overflowing with so much great stuff so I did not have time for the GoodKarma show.  I promise to make up for that by sharing the great information that I picked up at the conference.  Here are some quick highlights.

Top Surprise - Google’s Vanessa Fox is even more impressive in person.  I saw her in the hotel lobby and we had an excellent chat.  I’d encourage anyone to attend a search conference so they can have an opportunity to talk with people like Vanessa.

Top Dissappointment - Tim Mayer could not attend SES NY.  Tim is a great guy and it would have been fun to see him again.  Despite missing Tim, Yahoo still had some really interesting engineers and scientists at the show.   I was able to peek at some of the cool things Yahoo has in their pipeline.

Most Entertaining Moment - Attending Spamalot with the SES/WebmasterRadio.fm crew and seeing Dax brought on stage.

Least Entertaining Moment - Visiting the MSN Adcenter booth and asking if they were handing out vouchers like Google Adwords does, then being handed a page with signup information that costs $5 to activate.  Ummmm, not exactly what I had in mind.  I think I need to explain myself better next time.

What was your most memorable experience of SES NY 2006?

What would be your words of wisdom for people attending next year?
