My day at Pubcon…

Spoketh by Greg Niland in Stuff

After being in San Diego for a week having fun at WITS, I decided to only go to Boston for 1 day instead of the full conference.  I woke up yesterday and headed to the airport with no luggage (what an awesome feeling).  I was constantly checking to make sure the usb key with my presentation was still in my pocket.  Once I got seated on the plane, I was given more good news - since all passengers were accounted for we would leave earlier than planned.  A nice 40 minute flight and I am landing in Boston.

I hop in a cab and get whisked away to the convention center.  As I stroll in I see several familiar and friendly faces.  I get so caught up in several off-the-record conversations that I am actually running in to my session.  As I sit down and try to catch my breath I’m told that I’ll be the first speaker of the session.  All righty.  I try to pack 30 minutes of content into a 10 minute speech.  As I look across the audience I see alot of people writing non-stop.  I guess they were either writing notes or complaining about my aggressive link builiding slides to brett :) .  Of course on the last slide of my presentation I have a HUGE yankees logo.  Love ya Boston.

After my presentation an affiliate manager from one of the biggest poker sites approaches me asking for help on finding middle level affiliates.  Anyone interested let me know, they are offering very nice payouts taht are much higher than what is listed on their official site.  Then I popped into the Google lunch just in time to see ChrisR give Matt Cutts his birthday present - a can of sprite.  Matt is surrounded with his “cutlets” and Vanessa from the Sitemaps team also gets a decent share of groupies (which I quickly named the “foxes”).  Once all that was done Vanessa introduced me to a fresh face from Google Sitemaps - Amanda, it was her first conference.

Somehow I find myself in a bar (I know it is so unlike me)  I have a great time chatting.  While I am answering follow-up questions from my session at the bar a girl right next to me is telling her friend why anal sex is cleaner than oral sex.  Boston has some interesting people.

I then run off to check out the YPN party.  It was in a very cool club with great food being passed around.  I would even consider calling the food “gourmet”.  Unfortunately Rae has a problem with the bar - no goldschlager or rumpleminz.  What is a girl to do?  After having a few beers I decide it is time to slow down and head to the airport (i don’t really want to be drunk when going through airport security).  I get back to Manhattan in time to have a late dinner with my fiance and blog a picture of the ypnblog t-shirt.  All in all it was a very good day.

You may have to blog more about that conversation you had in the bar with those local boston chicks. :-)

[…] Greg Niland joined us, and after brief introductions we talked about everything from WordPress to outsourcing. I actually skipped the keynote address by Malcolm Gladwell to continue this discussion (yes, it was that good). […]
