On Thursday, May 25th Jim Boykin of WeBuildPages will join me to talk about his experiences managing SEM clients and the turbulent changes that SEM has gone through. As usual it should be an excellent and we’ll be taking live questions from the www.WebmasterRadio.fm chat room.
Dr. Robert Rey aka Dr. 90210 attacked an 80 year old man as he stormed into first class right before the plane landed. “When you get a black belt, at that stage your brain just clicks into action,” Dr. 90210 said. “I restrained this gentleman in a very aggressive way without hurting him.” He also said he checked the vital signs of the 80 year old man. Crew members described the man as “very frail”.
WTF, I understand everyone is on edge when they fly because everyone is a possible terrorist but to have to get physical with an 80 year old? Yes those 80 year old men can be frisky and he did push a flight attendant and make a big noise. But come on! If Dr. 90210 is a black belt than he should know how to restrain a person without being aggressive especially when the person is 80 years old and “very frail”.

Part I
First of all I would like to welcome you to SEO Affiliate Marketing. Secondly I would like to clarify that “aggressive seo” and “affiliate marketing” are two separate things. As an affiliate you can do aggressive seo and make fast money but it does have its drawbacks like being regularly banned from the engines. IMHO aggressive seo is getting to be as difficult as rocket science. If you have it 90% correct, it will not work. The search engines continue to become more sophisticated. It is harder to do aggressive seo without triggering a quality filter set up by the search engines. Read the rest of this entry »
I had a dinner party and then went to see the “The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode” play in New York. The Facts of Life was a very successful tv show that could only be brought back alive by having transvestites perform this in the basement of a bar http://www.theatermania.com/content/show.cfm/show/119833. I really enjoyed the show and laughed a lot (of course the constant flow of alcohol could have helped with that).

Besides having fun I also learned a lot of new vocabulary last night. Now I need to check out these new words and see if any of them are good seo keywords. Seriously, I have found many good keywords this way. By hanging out with different types of people you get exposed to words you would never have heard any other way.
I was talking with a new search engine employee and they were having a hard time understanding affiliates. The person did not understand why affiliates would ever do aggressive SEO if the search engines hate it so much.
People also hate direct mail but it is legal and it is profitable. I don’t understand why affiliate marketing has received a blanket label of being dirty and sleazy. I have been thanked from countless users for the information they find on my affiliate sites. I even have several people praying for me because (well I am not going to get into that in this post). There are some affiliates that are not good for the online community but let’s also say affiliate marketing is not all bad and can be very useful to online consumers.
Here are some reasons of why I think fellow affiliates do what they do… Read the rest of this entry »
Going through my comment spam folder I noticed a different anchor text being used - SEO. Oh boy! I start laughing because I know this is going to be funny. What spammer with half a brain would go after that term?
I go and visit the page and it has banners for all the big SEO forums and a HUGE H1 text link to mattcutts.com. I personally know Matt and the people who run the big forums, none of them are spammers (or dumb enough to use comment spam for a legit established site). Someone is gonna piss off the wrong type of people. Maybe someone did this as a joke for Matt? They are linking to his site correctly (including the www). Would anyone think this would carry link popularity to MattCutts.com?
Now I’m thinking this is either someone trying to give SEO a blackeye or they are hiding their true content until the spiders have found the backlinks from the comment spam. I don’t see how comment spam is going to give SEO a blackeye, already been there and done that. If you are hiding your true content why take the chance of pissing off some big players. It would have been much smarter to rewrite the wiki page.
Am I missing something?
For anyone that would like a free Affiliate Summit full conference pass you are in luck. Niche Works is giving away two free passes (valued at $1,499 each). All you have to do is fill out their sign up form here and write CONTEST in the comment fields.
Affiliate Summit is an excellent conference for any affiliate to attend. It is at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida on July 9-11. Also if you don’t know Nicheworks, they run excellent affiliate programs. I personally know the guys and have been very pleased in dealing with them.

Since I’m not creative enough to come up with my own blog ideas, I’m gonna copy this idea from Rae Hoffman. You can ask any question as long as it is entertaining and not obscene or nasty and I’ll answer it. This is not an SEO thread. It is just for fun and entertainment.
BTW since this is my contest (that i stole from rae hoffman) I reserve the right to make up the rules as I go along or until Rae Hoffman yells at me on IM
Regardless if you are running your own servers or if you have a hosting vendor, it matters where your hosting is physically located and where you have backup hosting. It is generally smart to setup a small backup hosting account and get that info included in your domain records. Here are a few reasons.
Search engines look for clues to determine which country index your site should be included. If they see that your site is hosted in Canada they will be inclined to include it in the Canadian results. If you want UK traffic you should go with UK hosting.
Also you should worry about backups. In case there is a power failure you should have your backup located on another power grid. In America there are 3 grids (Eastern, Western, Texas). Most big hosting vendors do have generators and should not be impacted by power failures. But stupid things have happened like a hosting vendor having a power surge which automatically switched it to the generator. Since it was not a power failure no one realized the system was being powered by the generator. The generator ran out of fuel and crashed everything. In other words if you believe in backups you should make it as safe as possible.
Also by using backup hosting that is physically located far away you will not be at risk for the ever dreaded backhoe failure. In case you don’t know what a backhoe failure is, that is when a construction worker using a big machine called a backhoe digs in the wrong spot and rips out the cables that data is transmitted on.
Recently I received an email from one of the people who listened to my presentation at Pubcon Boston. The person said they had written a note about one of my slides (it was the slide about how to fake ______) and they forgot what they had written. The person asked if I could help.
I remember chatting to the guy after the session and he was a nice guy and I wanted to be helpful. I can’t figure out how I can help him remember what he wrote. Anyways I wrote him the key points about that slide and hopefully it will help him remember. If you have any suggestions on how I can be helpful go right ahead and comment. I dare ya.
For anyone out there that has forgotten what they wrote I am probably not the best person to ask. I can’t even remember my own list of affiliate sites. Thankfully they remember where to send my checks
