Normally I find it is best to move on and don’t waste time on spilt milk.  That is why I recommend using a team of link people so no one person is critical and your investment is spread out.  So when a link person goes bad on you and many will, your loss is limited and the links keep coming from the other team members.

Recently I tried out a new link person with terrible results.  She was recommended by a friend so I broke my golden rule and prepaid her in full.  She estimated that she would deliver around 200-300 links within 1 month (these were not going to be high quality links).  After 2 weeks I checked my backlinks and saw no movement.  I wanted to make sure she was working on it so i tried to contact her.  She then avoids me for several weeks and gives me excuse after excuse.  Finally after a month and a half I get her to send me a spreadsheet of her “work” and it had 14 sites listed.  I spent over an hour going through each site and found only 5 of them were actually linking to me.  I then call her up and she admits her works was not good and offers a free month of link development to make up for it.  I said I wanted a refund and now she never answers her phone or responds to email.  I am pissed, when someone robs me I would prefer they do it quickly.  Don’t lie to me, don’t waste my time by sending a false link report and don’t make me chase you.

I have already wasted too much time on this losing situation but this one really irked me.  It is not alot of money but it was the way it was done and the way it wasted my time (especially having to go through the false link report).  What do I do?  This is a person that lives in the USA and I have been told her husband is running for elected office.  You may be wondering why involve the husband?  He is a co-owner of her online business.  Do I start up a PPC campaign to educate the local voters?  Take out a print ad in their local newspaper and publish the “great” work her company provided me?  Or move on and stop whining?

How much did you pay her? And who is her hubby? People need to pay for their actions! Sorry to hear about the whole thing.. what does your friend who reccomended her say about all this?

    Greg,

I would advise against your PPC campaign as this might be construed as slander and as the husband is running for an elected office he may have friends in higher places then you.

What I would do is take her to small claims court (assuming that the amount falls within small claims).

I learned years ago in business you never let anyone take a dime from you. Although you may be saying to yourself it’s so little money why bother perusing it just remember you wake up every morning and work hard everyday to earn a living. What right does someone have to misrepresent themselves by offering you a service, getting paid for that service and not delivering?

You should let her know you don’t play games and drag her ass to court.

You know my opinion… chasing after lost money when it is under five figures is time wasted.

  4. Greg Niland spoke:

Tricia - I paid her less than $1000 and that means small claims court and no lawyers.

Shandyking - I may be annoyed but I am not going to take a trip just to go to small claims court. I’d sooner visit (god forbid ) Los Angeles. :)

Rae - I understand the money is lost. I’m irritated since I had to do work checking the false link report to find out I had been taken advantage. And then why offer me free link work to make up for it but then avoid me? Why even bother offering the free month - she already had the money.

UGH!!! thanks for letting me vent guys and gals
