First Ever Potato Tasting

Spoketh by Greg Niland in Personal

I am in heaven.  You see I LOVE potatoes and my wife hates them.  So I avoid making potatoes at home which means I only get potatoes when I eat out.  On Friday night I had a dinner appointment at a nice restaurant and much to the shock of the waiter I ordered their entire selection of potatoes.  That’s right I wanted a tasting of all of their different potato dishes.  Don’t act like you have never made a crazy dinner order :)

potatoe lovers dream

This included ruby crescent fingerlings, sweet potato fingerlings, purée  potatoes, gratin potatoes and gnocchi.  My dinner companion did talk me into also ordering a vegetable (chard) and a meat (quail) to accent the potato tasting.  We decided quail would be better than the pigeon or piglet.  In case you want to recreate our fabulous potato tasting head over to Tom Colicchio’s Craft restaurant  If you are also a foodie fanatic let me know and we can try the restaurants in Las Vegas during Pubcon.

You are officially nuts. I thought you making me try pumpkin ravioli two years ago was torture. Quail? ;-)

What! No Spam and potato casserole? Give my Irish mom a ring. I’m sure she would be willing to add it to the menu. She did at least once every other week when I was growing up. It’s been awhile . . :0)

That is a bit odd to run the menu on potatoes. Ever had lobster mashed pototoes? I had some this weekend…mmmmm! They go great w/ a nice rare tuna steak. :)

i had the lobster mashed potatos and the wasabi mashed potatos at china grill in new york. the lobster was great, didnt care for the wasabi, we should all get together at the next conference and have a potato night :) hehehehe

I love to take a nice head of garlic and slow roast it for a few hours to sweet perfection. Then squeeze all of that luscious golden brown filling into some mashed potatoes.

I can still smell my great grandmothers fried potatoes she used to cook up in a cast iron pan. Grandma was from down south and still used real lard instead of crisco, you can really taste the difference.

I’ll take mine under a big ass medium well steak.

rae don’t forget your a1 steak sauce :) which btw i don’t think tastes very good on potatos
