Other tools I use are Nichebot, Yahoo Suggestion Tool and WordTracker. That said, I would caution anyone to be careful to not rely solely on Read the rest of this entry »

Yahoo Search Marketing (the artist formely known as Overture) has just partnered with not one but two leading vendors in ppc optimization - Offermatica and Optimost.  These two companies will offer YSM clients multivariate testing and A/B testing.  In plain english they will help you target your customers and split them into different groups then show them each a different version of your landing page and help you figure out which one page your customers prefer.

You can find out if they like a big “buy now” button or if they want a lot of text and details or you can test different prices.  Optimost helped Monster.com test 13 variables on their site and increased subscriptions by 36%.  Offermatica increased Quickbook’s conversion rate by 136%.  This testing can ensure your online ad budget is not wasted and that your conversions are as high as possible.

A very cool thing of this deal is that Yahoo is not receiving a referal fee for this service despite getting these companies to guarantee best pricing for Yahoo! clients.  The big winners are Yahoo! clients for being offered necessary tools at the best prices and also Offermatica and Optimost for being able to get new customers.  Yahoo! should gain even more customer loyalty for putting their clients interests first.

Dan Boberg will join us to explain this in even more detail and as always we’ll open it up and let our listeners in the chat room ask him questions.  Make sure to tune in and find out more about Yahoo’s new deal.

The good people at Cash Keywords have launched a new tool called Adsense Accelerator.  It runs on your desktop and helps you find the best keywords based on bid prices, bid quality and traffic levels.  It has a prepopulated list of keywords organized by different industries and also lets you do search for any keyword you like.

I was part of the beta test and was surprised at similar it is to my private tools.  I don’t know of any other publicly available tool that provides this many features.  To make it even better they are offering a lifetime discounted rate of $37/month to all listeners of GoodKarma.  To get this discounted rate just go here http://www.adsenseaccelerator.com/goodroi  To learn more about this tool you can listen to my interview with them in the podcast archive.

It appears that Google is testing the concept of adding a Google Base search box in their serps.  Below is a screen capture of what Google is showing for the keyword “homes for sale”.  Since they are already showing three paid listings on top of the organic search results it is interesting they would take away even more page real estate to add a search box for real estate listings in Google Base.  If they keep this up it will not matter if you rank #1 since no organic search results will be above the fold.  Google Base is still free so it wouldn’t be adding revenue.  The tests I did returned pages that are already in their standard search index.  I don’t really see a good reason for this, unless Google is laying down the groundwork for more specialized searching (after all you can only expect so much relevance when you have a single user input box) Good luck Google with your beta test.  Questions, comments?  Speak up.

Somehow Vanessa found time in her crazy busy schedule to answer some follow-up questions.   Thanks Vanessa.   If you have not yet tried Google Sitemaps, you are missing out.

  • If Google’s search engine was not available, what would you use to find things?
I’m very glad Google is around. I remember the hours and hours I spent in the library, looking through old microfilm and microfiche back when I was in college. Kids today just don’t know. I guess that’s my generation’s “walking to school in the snow uphill both ways” story. We tell the young whippersnappers about the days before Google. I still use the library all the time, but now I can use Google for my Britney Spears searches.
