For example some personal injury lawyers go after generic terms because they have a network of lawyers they can refer business to. Also remember that generic terms do not convert as well as specific terms. Someone searching for "flowers" might be looking for free information about growing flowers. Someone searching for "beverly hills 90210 florist" is looking for a business to buy from. For local businesses I would recommend going after many long keywords and don't worry about the very generic ones.
